Rome was a huge check off my bucket list for travels! It was so surreal to visit this city and is a time I will never forget.
My first day in Rome started with trying Amatriciana, one of Rome's four classic pastas. It was so delicious! Then I headed to Vatican City to take a guided tour of the Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museums. Learning about the rich history that took place there was very interesting. I loved admiring the painted walls and ceiling in the Sistine Chapel. We ended our tour at St. Peter's Basilica, where I had the opportunity to walk through the Holy Doors, as it was the Jubilee Year. I ended my day at a gelateria, for some delicious gelato and martiozzo.
I started my second day bright and early to head back to Vatican City for the Jubilee Audience. It was a blessed experience to see Pope Leo and be in the audience for something that happens only every 25 years. After that, I headed to Piazza Navona for some shopping! I treated myself to a leather bag, as Italy is known for its high quality leather. Then I walked down to Trastevere. I tried suppli, which is one of my favorite foods I've tried there. I did some souvenir shopping then treated myself to some gelato again! I walked around the city and admired the Christmas lights before calling it a night.
On my third day, I headed to iconic landmarks, like the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, and the Trevi Fountain. Going there in the morning is a great way to beat the crowds! I found a bakery by the Trevi Fountain and had to try their pistachio cornetto. This was another of my favorite foods I've had! After more sightseeing and shopping, I stopped by a pizza shop and had a porchetta sandwich. I rested for a bit, then went back out at night for more shopping. Of course, I got myself another gelato and a lasagna for dinner.
I made the most of my last day in Rome taking a guided tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. Our guide had so much knowledge about this city and it was amazing to learn about the history behind it all. Before heading to the train station, I picked up a pistachio cornetto to take home with me and had a margherita pizza. The bread in Rome is so delicious!
I loved exploring this city and am already planning my trip back!
